Words are very powerful.  They have been used to move a nation or destroy one.  Words can be inspirational for many generations or they can weaken many generations.  When we believe a word that is told to us, that word may change the decisions you make.  I harken to two speeches during the 1960s that helped to change the direction of a generation.  The first was delivered by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the other by President John F. Kennedy.  Each made a massive difference that was positive.

Even in the mundane lives we live each and every day, words we tell to ourselves and to others can make a difference.  If you say that “I can’t do it” or “I’ll try to do it” then what are you really saying?  Those words create weakness.  Other words and statements that demotivate and weaken include: stupid, moron, loser, weak, lousy, “it’s their fault”, “it’s too hard”, and so forth…

Instead of using weak words that demotivate, instead use power words and statements that help move towards strength.  They include words and statements such as: will, action, “do it now!”, “I’m confident!”, forward, upward and so forth…  I’m sure you can think of more, right?

Parents, think about what you say to your children that can affect them.  I’m not saying to heap unwanted praise, that actually creates the opposite of what you want.  Instead, praise their actions not who they are.  Look for opportunities to do that.  Even create challenges that will help your children to overcome something where you can praise them when they take action and when they accomplish the task.  Never criticize them when they make a mistake.  Praise them for taking the action and then show them how they could have done it better.

Every day and every moment you are filled with words that affect you.  Once you realize this, then you can be proactive in what words you use in all areas of your life.  Make a difference by first being aware of your self-talk and what you say to others.  If it’s positive and powerful, then good.  If not, then understand you have the ability to change for the better.

Now, go out and be the beacon of change towards a greater future for you and those around you.
