After watching the Presidential Election of 2012, it got me thinking more about leadership.  It seems that in today’s political climate there has been a shortage of true leaders and I have not seen one “Great Leader” from either party.  We have become a country divided, much like what we saw during the United States Civil War.

Arguments are good when they are focused towards the greater purpose of the nation as a whole.  That mean The United States of America.  While arguments are needed to move forward, the kind of arguments being made have done just the opposite.  For many years now, lines have been set and colors created.  If you’re a blue state or red state.  If you’re this or that.  You can’t be simply and American in pursuit of what our founding fathers set forth.

The great leader is one who can bring together all towards a common goal.. And common purpose.. That great leader is not about one agenda or another, but for everyone.  That is true in business as well as a country.  Then the great leader sets forth with a plan to reach that goal.  He or she is able to inspire all, not just a handful.  The great leader takes full responsibility when things go wrong.  And even when it does, the great leader knows when to get back on track.

Many times the Great Leader has to make decisions to help preserve a business and if he is President, then the country.  And to make that entity even greater.  The great leader inspires others to become leaders.  The goal is create more leaders, not just followers.  And the great leader also knows who to bring in.  Who to follow.  For every great leader has been a follower and a servant.

So, I say to those who lead, inspire to greatness.  Learn what it takes to become a great leader.  Take calculated risks, even if that costs you a political seat.  Because, if you are really a great leader, you’re not going to care about preserving your place.  You’re focused on the greater good for all.  If you can’t work with others towards a common goal/purpose and you’re only focused on your personal agenda, then you can never aspire to greatness.

I say get down and let the person who is willing to move forward, do it.  For when that great leader does come forward, watch out folks.
