In October 2011 I was in Atlanta, GA and while in the city I was able to observe police officers while they were on their beat.  Now, having been a police officer some 30+ years ago with the Los Angeles Police Department, it was disturbing to me to see how big some of these officers were.  And I’m not talking about their height either.  I wondered what would happen if they had to get into a foot pursuit. Now, I’m not just talking about police in Atlanta.  It’s the same in most U.S. cities. Times sure have changed and so have attitudes.

It’s amazing how much things have changed over the last few decades.  Now we have models that are rail thin and the average weight for both men and women is around 25+ pounds more than it was 50 years ago. In the same time, the average height only increased about 1 to 1 ½ inches.  Enough on the freaking stats, okay?  Because, I know most people don’t really care anyway.

For the most part, people care about how they look.  And that’s becoming more prevalent in today’s social media world.  And from what I can see as well as those I’ve talked to, they think they look okay.  I mean, they don’t think they are fat.  The average man or woman believes that they are well within normal weight ranges.

Well sure, if you look at the average in society.  The problem is that the average American is overweight or obese. And believing otherwise is simply you lying to yourself.  I also believe that if you were to focus on getting to a healthy and fit body as well as a healthy body image, you’ll end up doing it. You just have to believe that you need it and want it. Make sure you put more emphasis on wanting it.

So it all starts in your head whether or not you believe you are overweight. You may not be.  If you are not overweight and believe you are, then make sure you don’t go the other way, getting too thin.  Both extremes can be dangerous.  And they both start with your beliefs about yourself.

What are your beliefs?  And do you really want to get healthy and fit?  Change how you think and believe and you’ll change your results.
