“If you’re not making mistakes, then you’re not doing anything. I’m positive that a doer makes mistakes.” ~John Wooden
“Like any organism, humans are self-regulating creatures, and feedback loops are how we learn, whether we call it trial and error or course correction.” ~Thomas Goetz
As I’ve been working on building my first mobile site for Dr. Lori Shemek’s site, it’s become a challenge for certain aspects of my task. While I was able to build the site, it’s the redirection that has me going in circles. I guess it’s been awhile since I’ve worked with Javascript and not much in HTML 5. Though, while I will figure it out soon and having the whole thing working properly, this post is about persistence. That’s even with the trials and errors that I face.
Thomas Edison was the master of trial and error when it came to being successful. I think that the great majority of successful people have gone through the same process. It is part of learning and growth. We make mistakes and always have. No one is perfect. I remember an old saying (let me paraphrase), “Show me someone who has never made a mistake and I’ll show you someone who has never done anything in his or her life.”
Things like errors are simply feedback as to what doesn’t work at a particular time. And that is what I am facing currently. You may be going through the same thing in weight loss, learning a new job or getting ready for some sports competition. When you first started out, you probably had a lot of mistakes.
Learning is a process and we’re all incompetent at the beginning and may not realize it. I can assure you that I probably made more mistakes than the amount of words in a large library.
All in all, I love life and the challenges that I face. Working to figure out things is fun for me. Even if it doesn’t pan out the first time. Through persistence I’ll eventually figure it out. So can you in an endeavor you engage in. Now, get out have fun making mistakes as you learn.
