“If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health.” ~Hippocrates
My personal journey into fitness began long ago as a child. Though, it was kinda on and off at times. It harkens back to who we associate with. My own father seemed to be either anti-fitness or simply ignorant. He hated veggies, especially spinach. Weird since he grew up on a farm in the Ozarks.
Myself, I went a different route than him and made a decision to be as fit as possible. None more so than today. I keep challenging myself in as much a healthy way as possible. Yes, Parkour can lead to injuries as I experienced back in April of this year. And yet, it is part of my journey into fitness. A journey I will continue the rest of my life.
Each of us can make a decision to take the same journey. It’s not until one take the action towards fitness that the journey begins. We start with our “reason why” and go from there. Our mindset leads to the behavior which leads to the actions we take. You have to have a mindset of health and fitness if you want to go down that road.
“To enjoy the glow of good health, you must exercise.” ~Gene Tunney
When you begin, it should be an everyday process. That is part of the journey. And part of the lifestyle. A lifestyle of fitness. I’ve seen weekend warriors train a couple of days a week and even some that will get in the bandwagon for a couple of weeks. Then, they drop off for months at a time. You can’t do that. Fitness is not a sometime event. What is should be is part of your everyday lifestyle, much like brushing your teeth.
You don’t have to become obsessed with it either. I’ve seen people over-train and that is not good either. Regular movement throughout the day should be your aim. Standing more and sitting less is important. Walking is the very basic exercise that has been done since the dawn of mankind. If it worked for our Paleolithic ancestors, then it can work for you.
“Leave all the afternoon for exercise and recreation, which are as necessary as reading. I will rather say more necessary because health is worth more than learning.” ~Thomas Jefferson
As I reach my twilight years, I look at it as more of being better fit and youthful. My muscle size has increased and my testosterone levels are at a much younger level. It’s not that I am taking any drugs (which I’m not), it is about my lifestyle. That includes my diet as well.
Each moment we are at choice on the journey we decide to take in life. What is yours right now?
Cheers,
