Fitness is on the forefront of the minds of today’s leaders. For they realize that the strength of our society is tantamount to how physically fit it is. Being able to function in all realms will become a challenge for today’s and tomorrow generations if it keep on the same track of ever-increasing levels of obesity.
It’s been shown that roughly 68% of today’s adult population of the United States is overweight or obese. Even the military is extremely concerned. Latest studies have shown that about 3/4 or today’s 17-24 year old’s cannot qualify for entry into the military, in part, because of their weight. This has to change soon or even our national security may be at stake.
I’ve seen so many 1st responders that are overweight or obese and this is not good. As one who served in both the Marines and the Los Angeles Police Department, I can say that things sure have changed for the worse in those areas. I also believe that it’s going to take a dedicated group of individuals to get out and help educate the population so that they may get healthy and fit.
Being overweight or obese has many health-related issues too. Cardiovascular-related diseases as well and mental issues are but two of the vast array of health problems. I’m not going to get into that here. We all know that they exist. And it’s not the problem of those that suffer from it either. It’s a society problem. When one part of the system is affected, the system as a whole is affected. You and I are part of that system.
