How many remember the movie, ‘The Pursuit of Happyness’?  It was a story about Christopher Gardner which starred Wil Smith as the hero.  Gardner had a traumatic childhood that included a violent, abusive step-father.  His mother was imprisoned for the attempted murder of his step-father.  Christopher also had an uncle, Henry, who was his only source of inspiration.  His uncle later drowned in the Mississippi River.

Later, Christopher went through two marriages and was left homeless with his son, also Christopher, from his second marriage.  Despite his failing personal life, he pursued a career in finance through Dean Witter Reynolds.  After passing his licensing exam, he went onto become a full-time employee.  Five years later he founded his own firm, Gardner Rich & Company.  In 2006, he sold his interest in his company, which netted him $millions.  He then founded Christopher Gardner International Holdings.

Christopher Gardner was totally committed towards his goals.  Despite the distractions of the circumstances he was in, he didn’t give up.  And he didn’t get sidelined by other, easier and fun activities.  That is real commitment.

Whatever your goal is, being totally committed to it is important.  Without that commitment, you’ll never reach it.  If your goal is to lose 150 pounds in 18 months, then you’ve got to do the things that will keep you on track.  In fact,  be absolutely obsessed towards it!  That is the same with any type of true success.  Every single person that has ever mastered anything was 100% committed – they were 100% obsessively committed.

“A man can be as great as he wants to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive, and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done.”
-Vince Lombardi (won 5 NFL Championships as head coach of the Green Bay Packers)

If you really, really want to reach your goals, then commit to doing it.  And don’t be a little committed.  If you wait until the right time to do it, then you’ll never do it.  It’s not about the circumstances you find yourself at right now.  It’s about your attitude!  It’s about your want factor!  And it’s about your consistent action!  I don’t care in whatever field of endeavor you are in.  If you are a writer, then write.  To master it, you’ve got to do it.  To succeed in it, you’ve got to do it.

So… COMMIT!  COMMIT!  COMMIT!
