Each year most people may think about their New Year’s Resolutions. And each year, most people won’t do anything to make them happen. While resolutions are fine and dandy, they have become nothing but worthless statements. Many experts have proposed to turn resolutions into goals, including myself, it doesn’t work for the majority. Why?
The main thing that I’ve witnessed in both goals and resolutions is the lack of emotions and “want factor” that are put into them. That includes beliefs. If you don’t believe in yourself and your goals, then they won’t happen. You gotta believe that you will reach them through sheer determination and motivation. Many times you will have to become courageous too. This is because many around you may try to sabotage your efforts. Including yourself. Yes, we are our biggest saboteur when it comes to success in any endeavor, especially going after goals.
When you have the beliefs, motivation and emotions in place, it becomes much easier for you to get through the challenges. As you do, you will also learn on what works and what doesn’t work. It also takes courage to do the small things necessary that brings you closer to your goals. Most people will try to do too much and too big all at once. Yes, keep your eye on the big prize as well as on the small tasks. Both are important. One for motivation and the other for accomplishment.
Sometimes your motivation to move may wane a bit. That is fine. It happens to best of people. Especially if you’ve put your all into it. Here are several things that will help get you back on track:
- Enlist help from those that support your efforts, including a coach. A friend or some other person can help by keeping your spirits uplifted while a professional coach or other expert can keep you on track.
- Take a break. Just like in exercising, sometimes you will need to step back a bit for a well-needed break. Get out into nature will help. Or even a weekend away. Doing that will give you the energy needed to continue your journey towards your goals.
- Listening to self-help/motivational audios or watching videos can help give you the lift you need.
- Exercise regularly and consume good nutrition will help build the physical and mental fortitude each day as you work toward your goals.
- Keep a journal that tracks your emotions as well as your actions.
- Use a motivation visual aid, such as a vision board, that focuses on what your goal will look like once you reach it.
Those a but a few tips. Most of all, keep your courage, determination and motivation up as much as possible. Do something each day toward your goals. Even the smallest thing will count. Just do it.
Have an amazing and blazing year ahead!
