A tradition that many people have engaged in for many years is the snapping of the wishbone.  Each person would imagine a wish they’d like to have and then whoever ended up with the biggest half got the wish.  This was always a fun game and it made the “winner” feel special.  Many times they would brag about it.  Wishing, just like New Year’s Resolutions, mean nothing in reality.  It is simply a hope… A dream…

How many people have you known that had dreams they always wanted or wishes they would like granted?  Such is the stuff of stories.  Aladdin and his magic lamp is one famous tale.  Throughout history, we have listened to many stories of people getting that magic wish.  The pot at the end of the rainbow.  The lucky charm.  The four-leaf-clover.  And so forth.  The wishbone is amongst them.

Wishes are simply dreams.  Nothing more.  And wishes will never come true, unless you have a couple of ingredients added.  They are belief and action.  That simply means that you have to fully believe in what you want and are willing to take the action to make it into reality.  Dreams and wishes will remain such until and unless you decide to turn them into reality through your effort.

That means to fully believe in it with intense enthusiasm, plan to get it and take action on the plan.  There is no magic except the magic of belief and action.  Nothing more.  The greatest success stories were created by people of belief and action.  Leonardo Da Vinci didn’t wish for all his works, he imagined them and created what he imagined.  Thomas Edison didn’t wait for his dreams to happen.  He went out and made them happen through persistent action.  He overcame setback after setback until what he imagined became reality.

If you won the pulling and snapping of the wishbone, and you believe in your wish, then take action.  Stop dreaming and start moving.  And when circumstances get you down and you start to complain, then remember the words of the great Nike gods…. “JUST DO IT!”

Cheers,

Bob
