Ah, the almighty opinion! The higher that one in celebrity status, the more valuable their opinion seems to become. Or is that my opinion? You see, we all have opinions. Heck, this post is an opinion about opinions. They are everywhere. When we review a product or service, it’s our opinion. In a sense, an opinion is a judgment about something.
Most newspapers across the country will have an op-ed section. This is where well-known commentators will give their opinion about something (usually politics). Many times their will be an opposing viewpoint. All sides have their own opinion. Whether or not each opinion is based in fact doesn’t matter. The commentator is talking to their audience. We see the same thing on cable news programs. And the louder the person giving the opinion, the higher the ratings.
If the person giving the opinion resonates with you, then you’ll go out and restate it to others. Arguing against any opposing view will ensue. And most people will take the opinion of someone they believe in as a statement of fact. Reason goes out the window and emotions come into play.
You see, it’s easier to not think. Instead of using rational thinking when needed, most people will relegate their non-thinking to their lower brain (aka: The Limbic System). We have learn to start thinking again and find out if an opinion is based in fact. That’s where using your higher brain function helps. Instead of reacting… ACT! Act by doing research into the facts of the opinion. Act by finding out the agenda of the opinion. And act by forming your own opinion based in facts.
Opinions are always fun. I even enjoy them. Whether or not I agree with them doesn’t matter. They will always be a part of our society. We just simply have to sift through what is fact or fiction. Or both. Now ACT!
