People that know me, know that I always get into conversations with just about anyone.  Well, I did just that once again and this time regarding obesity.  I had mentioned during my conversation where our nation is heading to in this regard.  Now, this guy I was talking to is only 27 years old, so he would not have known the way things were 30+ years ago.

As we talked, I said that we are so much fatter as a nation than we were 20 years ago.  And by 2030, our society will be over 50% obese.  He then said to me that he had not noticed that people were getting fatter.  He thought that the way people are today is quite normal.  Then it hit me!  It’s just like the analogy of frogs in a pot of water that is slowly boiled.  It just won’t be noticed.  And therefore, obesity becomes the norm and fit people are looked upon as abnormal beings.

How many remember a movie that came out in 2008 called Wall-E?  The movie was about this robot called Wall-E and his journey from collecting trash and into being cast inadvertently into a space trip.  What he came across were humans on board this spacecraft of the future.  And every single person was obese and being taken care of by technology.  There was no real movement or exercise.  No healthy foods.  And a mindset that this was the norm.  It was for them.

In our current world, perception of what is real is what is real for each person.  Hence, obesity becomes the norm, just like in the movie Wall-E.  In order for things not get to that level, we all have to change how we see things.  Just like in the difference in dress sizes for women today versus 30 years ago, we have to make a concerted effort to reevaluate our perception.  And to do that it’s about changing our beliefs and attitudes.

People, take a hard look at yourself and those around you.  Take a look at the food that you consume.  Take a look at your physical activity levels.  And take a look at what you believe.  It is time to change if you haven’t done so already.

JUST DO IT!
