The warriors of ancient times, including the Samurai, knew that to win in a battle, one had to have a powerful inner strength. They trained their minds more than even their bodies. And it’s not just these ancient warriors that have done just that.
In competitive sports, it’s been estimated by some, that it’s 80% mental and 20% physical. While we know that one has to be in their best physical shape to compete in their given sport, they also have to be at the top of their game mentally. Not much has changed in that arena since the days of the ancient samurai.
When two fighters square off in the ring, they try to play mind games with each other. This is called “psyching out your opponent.” Many times I can tell by the body language of the fighter as to who will win or who will lose. It’s the same in other sports too. Even in combat, mental strength plays a large role as to who will persevere and who will give up.
The subject of mental strength (or mental toughness) is carried across all areas of life. Those that can deal with a given circumstance and push through shows just that. Most people simply give in or give up. Wherever you are in life, it’s up to you as to where you end up. Do you want to persevere and even conquer the things that challenge you or will you simply give in. That is up to you.
Discover your own inner strength and use it to help you move forward despite the circumstances you face. You can and will do it. OOH RAH!!!
Let me leave you with this Japanese Kanji Character meaning STRENGTH:
