I look at the state of our United States and victim-hood abounds.  People have stopped taking responsibility for their own lives and instead, will look to blame someone else for their circumstances.  You have to know that life isn’t fair for anyone of us. Things will happen that is bad just as things will happen that are good.

“People won’t have time for you if you are always angry or complaining.” ~Stephen W. Hawking

It ain’t the things that happen to us that matter, it’s how we respond to them.  I had a friend who would wallow in self-pity time and again.  When her ex-husband passed away, she was obsessed with it and constantly asked herself why did it happen to me?  I mean, he was already with another woman and it was 15 years since their divorce and she never got over it.  She never accepted responsibility for the marriage falling apart either and was unable to move forward.

There are extremes of people feeling sorry for themselves.  Someone who loses their job may blame a supervisor or a co-worker and want revenge.  Hence, we hear about mass killings at a former workplace.  Instead of saying, so what and moving forward to something better, they destroy lives.  Heck, I’ve been fired and it enabled me to move into a better situation.

On the other end of the spectrum, we hear about people who have been handed the worst “hand of cards” and never let it define them.  When theoretical physicist Stephen W. Hawking was diagnosed with a form of ALS back when he was in his early twenties, it didn’t stop him from living his fullest life.  One of the most brilliant books ever written was “A Brief History of Time.”  His theories in physics and in particular, astrophysics, helped to move forward the realm of science.

It all comes down to how you look at life’s events, either negative or positive, in relation to you.  The old analogy about making lemonade out of lemons holds true.  So, stop feeling sorry for the shit that happens in life and turn into fertilizer for your growth.  So, start taking responsibility for where you’re at.  It’s up to you and it’s the only way to move forward in life.
