Beliefs are a subconscious process. We may not even realize that we believe something. Yet, when we want something, we may tend to negate it because of our subconscious beliefs.
Self-Limiting Beliefs
“The outer limit of your potential is determined solely by your own beliefs and your own confidence in what you think is possible.” ~Brian Tracy
Some of my own family members have said that they would like to get healthy. Then they would negate it with a “but.” The word “but” is a transition to a second half of a statement that leads to the person’s subconscious beliefs. Let me go back to the previous example with my family member. And let me paraphrase what a particular person said. “I want to get healthy and fit, but, I can’t because of my genes.”
Each of us may have negated something in our lives with a “but.” I know I’ve done it. While “buts” can also transition a negative statement into a positive one, that usually doesn’t happen.
And what we believe usually always wins over what we want. Our subconscious mind is about 90% of our mind, leaving the other 10% to our conscious thoughts. Yet, if we knew how to use both of them more effectively, then it could work wonders. It takes work and it takes a change in one’s beliefs.
“Beliefs have the power to create and the power to destroy. Human beings have the awesome ability to take any experience of their lives and create a meaning that disempowers them or one that can literally save their lives.” ~Tony Robbins
Educating oneself in subjects that would help dispel a particular belief is a start. Using hypnosis to access the subconscious mind helps as well. Associating with people who know the reality versus the beliefs is powerful. And changing the transition word really works. Going back to the previous statement of my relative I would change the statement made to this: “I want to get healthy and fit, and, I will do whatever it takes to make it happen. That includes education, dedication and perspiration.” You see the transition word I used? The word “and.” “And” builds upon the want statement.
We all have beliefs in our lives that can help or hinder us. Those beliefs come from our family, our neighborhoods, our friends, our churches, our schools and those we associate with the most. Change just parts of them and you will start to change your beliefs. Being more open-minded will help as well. And challenging what you believe is a powerful step. Always question what you know and believe. Don’t get locked into having a “frozen brain.”
You will know your subconscious beliefs by your words. That is especially true when you are being challenged and your emotions take over. What you believe will come to light. Even if it flies in the face of facts, your beliefs will hold steady. Even if your beliefs destroy you, you may still go on believing them. You can change. You just have to believe you can. And that is another lesson…
