“Life is a succession of moments, to live each one is to succeed.” ~Corita Kent

One of my good friends is about to embark on a trip to India.  He will be doing some filming as well as learning.  He even has a film company that will meet him there to help create a documentary.  We discussed what he could do while he was there regarding fitness and such.  The important part of shooting the videos for fitness is also to include some history of each location he shoots at and maybe even interview one or more people.  As he does that, he will also discover the moments.

As each of us go through today’s modern society, we are full of distractions that have taken us away from the moments in life.  While smart phones have enabled us to keep connected more, it’s also stopped real connection.  It wasn’t that long ago we would be able to simply connect by talking on our phones, including cell phones.  There was no text messaging.  We simply talked, much like the old days via our home phones.  And much of that was to set up an opportunity to meet in person.

Moments can be spent with those we care about, engaged in an activity that has meaning or simply listening to nature’s music.

How life has changed and not necessarily for the better.  Personally, I love to talk to people in person.  Nothing beats those special moments and we can be more real.  Whether it’s on a smart device or via social media, much of what you are m104moments-pavese-postersconnecting with may not be the real person.  We try to put up a front that is bigger than the reality.  I want the real person, flaws and all.

Nature has shown us the way for millions of years.  It doesn’t put up a mask, except in the cases of survival or trying to catch prey.  What we see is what we get.  I love to get out into nature and learn from it.  I love the moments as well.  No smart devices to distract me.  It is all about my connection to those natural moments.

What we all need and should want to do is to make each moment count.  Once they pass us by, they are gone forever.  As you read this post, think about the moment just a second ago or an hour ago.  You can’t go back.  Yes, you can go back and reread something.  That is not the same thing.  You’re only rereading it in another moment in time.

Think about it, we all have a finite amount of time in our lives.  It is how you spend it that makes a difference.  Successful people know the value of time and of money.  You can leverage time, money and moments.  You might be able to capture on film those moments, but to actually experience it while it’s happening is truly wondrous.  To use all five senses without judgment is important.  Just experience those moments.  And when you do, your stress will lessen. Your anxiety will disappear.  Your happiness quotient will rise.  And a healthier you will abound.

It is up to you.  Will you decide to start embracing each moment as special or will you simply get distracted and lose it for all eternity?  Will you get outdoors and exercise or will you lose those moments to watching TV?
