“The more intensely we feel about an idea or a goal, the more assuredly the idea, buried deep in our subconscious, will direct us along the path to its fulfillment.” ~Earl Nightingale
When Napoleon Hill wanted to come up with a book title for his new book and he struggled with it. It wasn’t until he put forth to his subconscious mind the idea of coming up with the title did it happen. He said to it out loud before falling asleep, ““I’ve got to have a million-dollar title, and I’ve got to have it tonight, do you understand?” At 2am it came to him. He immediately typed out on his typewriter the title… Think and Grow Rich.
Our subconscious minds will put together ideas based on the experiences in your life, what you’ve learned and how you feel. The more you have in both experiences and learning, the better the outcome of your ideas. At least for many of them. Sometimes the best ideas are the simplest. That could a reason many youngsters come up with brilliant ideas.
Much of what many adults come up with regarding ideas did not come from their subconscious mind, but from trying to rationalize what they read. They simply try too hard and think too hard. That will get them nowhere. Put away the trying and pose a question to your subconscious mind. Let it do the work for you. It’s much better at creating new ideas than your conscious mind. After you have the new idea, then your conscious mind can look and evaluate it. Here’s a recent interview by Loren Nordgren of the Kellogg School of Management regarding finding creative solutions…

Our subconscious mind works the best when you pose to it the best questions. It will get past the roadblocks that your conscious thoughts face and dig into the wealth of knowledge, experiences and ideas already embedded there in order to create new ideas and solutions.
Here are a few ways to best access and use your subconscious mind:
- Self-hypnosis enables you to access your subconscious mind and give it suggestions.
- Journaling is another great way to pass thoughts to your subconscious mind. Just make sure when you write, do it without rationalizing those thoughts. Just let them flow.
- Meditation is a way of relaxing the mind before and after you make subconscious suggestions. This way your subconscious mind will work without conscious thought.
- Give suggestions to your subconscious mind just before you sleep. You can say it out loud (like Hill did) or simply write them down. Afterwards, sleep on it.
- Go for a hike and let nature help you.
Your subconscious mind is an amazing resource. It can work for you if done right. Make sure to use right suggestions and questions. Keep in the positive as much as possible. A relaxed mind will work best. Though, sometimes stress may help to come up with an answer quicker. That is only if you have better control of your mind.
Keep practicing and eventually you’ll be coming with solutions and ideas on the go.
