I had a conversation with my nephew, Eric Powell, this evening and he explained to me all the trials he is going through.  You see, Eric is a combat veteran during the Iraq war and suffered a traumatic brain injury as well as PTSD.  The left side of his brain was damaged.  Prior to his service, Eric was fantastic at fixing things.  He was into the details when he did.  The analytical side of his brain was in full swing.

Today, he doesn’t have much of that part of him.  Though, something amazing happened instead.  The right side took over and allowed him to become more creative.  We had discussed fitness and he came up with one new routine after another.  He created new exercises that are fully functional.  Additionally, his ability to write was enhanced.  I told him tonight that he needs to write a book regarding his story and his fitness routines.  Eric has a new mission to do so.

I am proud of his service and sacrifice for all of us.  I am more proud that he is doing what it takes to overcome his challenges.  He recently had a setback with severe seizures that may put him back into the hospital and more surgery.  In the meantime, it’s on to the book and even DVD’s.

You see, each of us face obstacles and challenges, though they may not be as bad as Eric’s.  If one door closed in your life due to some unforeseen circumstance, then create a new one to open and go through.  And you may discover that the new door may be better than you ever had before.

Cheers,

Bob
